The Brandenburg Gate
023.gif

Cinquantenaire (Brussels)
We went to Berlin on a surprise trip for my husband's birthday. Actually, my husband had been to Berlin once before, but it was the first time for me... The Brandenburg Gate has a very similar design to the gate  in Cinquantenaire park in Brussels, therefore I wasn't so impressed by it.
Also, we went to the Pergamon Museum. I didn't have any knowledge about the exhibition, but the audio guide helped a lot.

The museum contained several very large artifacts. The Pergamon Altar and the Market Gate of Miletus impressed me the most. The Market gate is 30 m high and 10 m wide.

034.gif

We also visited LOXX Miniature Welten Berlin. It is a miniature model of Berlin including many trains, cars and buses that obeyed traffic signals. Also, there was a model of the airport ( including planes taking off and landing). Even the lighting changed between day and night. They use Google Earth to create the model and added many details ( such as music festival in the park, Berlin wall, Brandenburg Gate and even buildings were correct. ) We spent a couple of hours there.

When we arrived at Berlin airport, we saw an advertisement for Sanssouci. Sanssouci is the former summer palace of Frederick II, but he used it as his residential palace. This palace was made in the Rococo style and the palace's name come from a French phrase which translates as "without concerns", sybolising that the palace was a place for relaxation rather than a seat of power.

Unfortunately, it wasn't a good season to visit. All the statues were covered by boxes and there were no flowers in the garden. We could only see the ducks and swans playing in the icy pond.  It must be beautiful garden in summer.
